Scottsdale Shea East encompasses the area bounded by Thunderbird Road to the north and Shea Boulevard to the south, stretching east from the 101 Freeway. There is a wide variety of types of homes in this area. The Scottsdale City Council adopted the East Shea Area Plan in 1987, which designated Shea Boulevard a scenic corridor, and established guidelines to preserve the character and development of the existing neighborhoods. Therefore, this larger community is very scenic and protective of the surrounding natural environment. There are several different types of residences available to those who wish to live in the Shea Corridor East community. The Cabo Del Rey neighborhood has 42 single story homes including condos and single family homes. The homes were primarily built by DEACTIS between 1993 and 1994. Townhomes are also available in Adobe Ranch Villas. This small community of 38 townhomes is located near McDowell Mountain. Another neighborhood within East Shea is Desert Wind II. These homes were built in the 1980s and average between 2,300 sq ft to upwards of 6,000 sq ft. The Cove Estates have homes with square footage averaging 2,500-3,500 sq ft and were built in the mid-1990s.
Rosalee Ranch is located off of Cactus Road, west of 104th Street. This smaller community features 40 luxury homes on oversized lots. Most homes have their own pools, spas, tennis / sport courts. Paradise Drive Estates features custom homes with expansive floor plans on very large lots (1-2 acres on average). These homes were constructed in 1989-90.
Further east are the luxury enclaves of Ancala and Scottsdale Mountain. Ancala is a guard-gated community that has a wealth of stunning mountain views. Built by Golden Heritage beginning in 1991, Ancala has 542 custom homes as well as 42 casita homes. These homes and casitas start around 2,000 square feet and range upwards of 8,000 square feet. Scottsdale Mountain offers a range of single-family and custom homes. Constructed by builders such as Monterey Homes, New Horizon, Ryland Homes and Saddleback, these homes start at 2,000 square feet and range upwards of 4,000 square feet. The single-family homes average 3-4 bedrooms, many have private pools and some offer eco-friendly features.
Amenities: There are many amenities centrally located to this area of Scottsdale Shea East. Nearby shopping (across the 101 freeway) includes the Scottsdale Quarter, with its Apple store, Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and American Girl. Kierland Commons is just across Scottsdale Road, and offers plenty of retailers such as Anthropologie and Crate and Barrel, as well as many popular restaurants. Mayo Clinic and Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital are located nearby, and Fountain Hills is a few miles away to the east.
There are plenty of places in which to enjoy the gorgeous, mature surroundings of this community, including the Stonegate Equestrian Park, Cholla Park and Scottsdale Ranch Park, featuring volley ball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball courts and playgrounds. Fitness opportunities are plentiful in this corridor, as there are dozens of parks with walking and biking trails, as well as numerous fitness centers. Golfers can take advantage of the public courses available at the TPC Scottsdale, the Talon and Raptor at Grayhawk or Kierland’s 9-hole Ironwood, Acacia and Mesquite courses.
McDowell Mountain Regional Park offers over 40-miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails. The Via Linda Senior Center is located nearby on Via Linda, next to Scottsdale Ranch. This center is a City of Scottsdale facility open to those 18 and over, and offers a multitude of entertainment options, including classes in arts and crafts and computers as well as a gym.
Schools: The schools in this community are within the A rated Scottsdale Unified School District and include Anasazi Elementary, Mountainside Middle School and Desert Mountain High School. The very highly rated private Basis Scottsdale is also an option for those students residing here.
